Péniche Antipode
On this barge moored in the Bassin de la Villette from September to June, there’s always something happening to suit all ages and all weathers.
Activities for kids and grown-ups
The place is designed to be friendly for both kids and adults. Wednesdays and Sundays, theatre and other such events are performed for kids of all ages. For grown-ups, theatre and improvisations, concerts, and special evenings are held on a regular basis.
Fair-trade activists
The Peniche Antipode is the first fair-trade boat in Paris. Food and drinks are directly bought to small producers in France. Workers are volunteers, which make it possible to keep the prices low. In the summer, it is always nice to enjoy GMO-free snacks sitting on a deck, next to the river. The Peniche Antipode’s Staff is part of a network of non-profit organizations, to which all benefits are distributed. Even beers are GMO-free and fair-trade…
The History of a Theatre Company and a Boat…
Abricadabra & Co. (a non-profit organization founded in 1996) took over for the SANVIC Co., which was created in 1978. Abricadabra presents shows for children, and for very young children (starting at age one) — including a special play dedicated to the “doudou,” a French word for a child’s cherished little blanket.
In 2002, Abricadabra & Co. based its cultural center for children and their parents aboard the boat PENICHE ANTIPODE, docked across from 69 Quai de la Seine, in the 19th arrondissement of Paris.
Today, plays for children and adults are presented there regularly, as well as concerts and theatre classes… accompanied by a charming bar that offers a variety of fair trade products.
