Another Paris

La Cité des Sciences and its library

If you are spending a few days in Paris, you might want to go to “La Cité des Sciences” in La Villette, a place where kids can learn about sciences while having great fun. Take this chance to have a look at La Villette’s library, where your kid is likely to make some new friends. One can read, play, watch movies, learn about sciences, draw or listen to stories. It is totally free and everyone is welcome.

In the « Pôle Enfance » of the library (kid’s corner) computers are made available, there are drawing workshops, exhibitions, and film shows on big screens.

Children seem to be very at ease in this cosy room. A man reads a story, many interested children feel free to listen. Grown-ups are enjoying as well, meeting other people and having a chat. Because it is the only free place in « La Cité des Sciences », many people from the neighbourhood gather here.

People from many different ethnic origins meet here and make out of this place a real melting pot. You might wonder how you should behave in such a peculiar library but soon you will learn the two only rules: don’t sit on books and don’t speak too loud!

This turmoil might seem uncommon in a library. However, it makes it friendly and it is a good approach to initiate kids to culture.
