Another Paris

Cafézoïde

Cafézoïde is the first café made by and for the children. There is always someone to take care of kids, to serve a drink and have a chat with parents. Children are playing around or just sipping at strawberry flavoured milk. They designed themselves most of the decoration and will be proud to show you their work.

A place for children of every age

More than a café, it is also a place where children from 0 to 16 can participate in the numerous activities and learn about painting, music or even gardening. Children can play in a joyful place with the feeling of being independent. Teenagers will particularly appreciate videogames and table-football. Events, such as concerts, are often organized. In a word, there is always something going on and good mood.

Laurent comes regularly with his baby and his six years old son. He and his wife discovered this place on the internet and really enjoy the atmosphere, the kindness of the staff and the cultural and social diversity which make this place so lively.

Children can even come on their own, the crew or other parents will take care of them. Little Elena really enjoyed the Algerian Day: she tried couscous for the first time, a traditional Arabian dish.

A cheap and popular place

Anne-Marie is running the place and is engaged in keeping the prices cheap. Cakes, drinks and sweets are payable with a system of tickets. Each ticket costs 1,5 euros and membership is no more than 2,5 euros a year. The district remains popular and all the inhabitants can afford a drink in Cafézoïde. The place is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10am to 7pm. Started as a unique café in Paris in 1997, Café Zoide is now developing a concept that can replicate the idea in other neighbourhoods. The organisation is financed by subsidies and other small contributions, which could be boosted by selling the children’s artwork or promoting the organisation more efficiently.

As a foreigner, you are welcome to take a look at this unusual café. Whether you are staying long-term in the city or just want to have the chance to work on your French here are some ways to meet some other parents in the city. Come anytime, there is always something happening. It is a chance for kids to make some friends of different cultures…

and to taste the delicious cakes.
